The college was established on 20th June 1965 by S.P.M. (Shiskhan Prasarak Mandal) which is known as Tatyasaheb Mahajan Arts and Commerce College. It was established to give an opportunity of education to the students of rural area. The college started first year of Arts and Commerce, affiliated to Nagpur University. History in Arts faculty is an optional subject.
1) History has been kept has on optional subject - from the beginning of the college. The department has been honored Shri N. R. Khekale, a very learned teacher, From 25-6-1965 to 31-5-1967. Then Shri S.A. Kale worked as Lecturer in History from 22-6-1967 to 1972. From 08-08-1972 to 31-05-2000 Shri Suresh Joshi as Head of History Department. Dr. Suresh S. Malshikhare joined him on 01-09-1995 At present, he is the Head.
2) History of Department:- He completed his Ph. D. and got awarded. His Ph.D. research entitled as, "Study of Social, Religions, cultural, Economic and Political Status of Shepherd (Dhangar) community in Western Vidharbha" The result of the highly social oriented teacher is that the students got benefitted from. his erudition and gentleness. A very good combination of quality teaching, deep shady and hard work is seen in all the History teachers. The library has been enriched with RARE ABD precious book of the History. include texts and reference book. Teachers first study those books and prefer to read the same by stating the importance and relevance of the books.
3) About Subject: - The History forum is formed at the beginning of the new session and under the edges of the forum various departmental activities are carried out, such as History study tour, seminars, and also a state level conference has been organized apart from this department organizes survey and One day workshop for students.
4) Ph. D. Research Centre -The faculty has recognized as supervisor for Ph.D. with university letter dated on 14th march 2019 Now he has three research scholars for Ph.D. in the recognize Research centre

The aim of History forum is to make the students aware about various history issues as well as to awareness the knowledge about world & Indian history, hence the History forum is established every year in the college. The forum is also encourages the students to take part in various history & social activities.
